We got up early on Saturday so the boys could go watch Alex's brother's team play soccer in Finland. Unfortunately, his brother was injured, but the kids still had fun... and lots to eat!
After the homecoming soccer game, our friend Brenda Sassi invited us out for dinner. We went to a popular sandwich shop next door in Mexico. What a great time spending dinner with Rumford's Mom.
Each day of homecoming the kids in school wear different outfits. On Monday it was Senior Citizen's Day. Naturally, I could supply the boys with whatever they needed... what an unhappy thing to say. On the second day, they wore something like twin day. I was at the university and didn't get pictures, but they wore the soccer jerseys they had given one another. The third day, each class is assigned a color (Pink= Freshmen; White: Sophomores; Black=Juniors; Blue & Silver= Seniors). The final day, everyone wore school colors.
The boys played a stellar game tonight against cross-town rivals, Dirigo High School. They are a lot of fun to watch on the pitch: William's very steady defense and dynamic attacks through the midfield and Sonke's beautiful runs splitting the defense. Tonight, Brenda took us all out to dinner after the match. She loved watching the boys play.
Although I tried new techniques today to keep Bailey from barking too much before and during our YFU meeting, he still had his 19th century couch for a bed this evening... How many dogs in America have a Victorian couch as one of their beds? It's all his father's fault.
We hosted a gathering of YFU here at home with Ann and Maureen, representatives from YFU. We talked about different aspects of the program and of the move to America. The boys ate cookies and drank apple cider... Bailey chewed a bone.
Aunt Connie took a bad tumble outside of the school building on Friday while preparing to take the boys home. After a hospital visit and an MRI of his brain, she and Ben headed to the boys' soccer game (a win). How's that for dedication? All kidding aside, we're sorry about Connie's fall and we hope that she has a very speedy recovery. (Secretly, we think she looks wicked cool with that shiner!)
