Soenke comes from a family of five in Germany. He enjoys sports and mathematics, and he describes himself as "polite, ambitious, but reliable, honest, and trustworthy." This year at Mountain Valley High School in Rumford, Maine, he'll probably play soccer, ski on the Falcon Ski Team, and play baseball.

Bailey Tuckerman Kent was born in May of 2010 at the base of Sunday River Ski Area and has two sisters. He likes food, his bones, his dad, his brothers, hiking, food, his dad, his brothers, his bones.... He's a happy boy.
Rich Kent... I grew up in a skiing family of seven. My dad was a papermaker in the local mill here in Rumford and my mom worked for the local school system tutoring homebound, handicapped kids. Currently, I work as a university professor and writer. I like to hike and write, but I spend most of my time answering email. I worked as the State of Maine coach of skiing and soccer, and took 30 Maine state soccer teams to play in England over a 13-year period in the 1980s and 1990s. I've hosted many foreign exchange students over the years, and they've become great friends and, in a real way, family. My big dream? I'd like to own an RV and travel around America writing and hiking...

Aunt Connie and Uncle Ben live four houses up the street from Rich's. They have two grown boys and have hosted summer French students in the past and have been family hosts with Rich since 2008. When Rich is on the road, William and Soenke will stay in at the Venskus's home. Connie is a school teacher who directed her first play this past spring (a murder mystery!) and Ben, a former marathon runner and Boston sports' fanatic, works at Rumford's paper mill. All the foreign exchange students have loved their American aunt and uncle... and those desserts. :-)
