The boys are enjoying baseball even though the weather has been miserable. But for the next week we've landed wonderful spring weather. On Sunday, Connie, Ian (Connie and Ben's son), and the boys will attend a Red Sox game in Boston.
Lukasz's host mom took the boys to a jump building where they--well, jumped. Afterwards, they went bowling. Rich, like Cinderella, stayed home and cleaned some of the house. ;-) We received a terrific box of large Easter Eggs from William's grandmother in Denmark. Even Bailey got a special egg...and naturally, Bailey ate quite a handful when opened. Thanks, Grandmother!
The Easter Bunny also stopped by Connie and Ben's house and the boys walked away with another stash of candy. Fortunately, Bailey has yet to discover the collection of candy--there's still time. The 4th Sunday in March is always Maine Maple Syrup Day. This year the day fell on Easter. A couple of years ago Louise & Bob Stickney started a tradition of inviting friends and family to their maple syrup farm in Rumford. They serve brunch replete with all things maple syrup. Louise is Connie's sister. Here are a few photographs from the morning taken by Soenke. Our thanks to The Stickneys for welcoming the boys... another fun experience in the good old US of A. It may have touched 50 degrees today, but the ice is still in on Webb Lake. We checked out the camps and then went up to Center Hill. The end-of-the year tradition of pond skimming at Black Moutain. Both boys made it safely. Connie took the boys to Maine's state capitol on Friday to see the state house and Maine State Museum. They met with one of my former high school students, Matt Peterson, who is a state representative and advocate for people with disabilities. The boys had a tour of the state house chambers and had the opportunity to wield the speaker's gavel in the House of Representatives. Thanks for this gift, Aunt Connie! Once again this year, Brenda and Connie organized the "Foreigns" to write home for favorite recipes. Together, they created Geschnetzeltes mit Champignons in Rahmsoße (German: meat and noodles) and Boller i karry (Danish: meatballs in curry). All exchange students run the risk of getting into bad habits while in America. Our boys have, too. They're addicted to Dunkin Donut products, from the iced coffees and fruit drinks to their bagel egg sandwiches. It's sad to behold. Look at the emptiness in their eyes... They'll need a good program when they return home to withdraw from Dunkin Donuts.
